Gmail and Yahoo Email Compliance Updates

What’s Happening

To ensure a safer and more secure experience, email service providers like Gmail and Yahoo will be implementing new Sender Policy Framework (SPF) and Domain-based Message Authentication Reporting and Conformance (DMARC) requirements to safeguard their customers. Changes to authentication requirements for Gmail are expected in February 2024; changes for Yahoo are expected in early 2024.

What Are SPF and DMARC?

These are authentication methods that, together with DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM), prevent spammers, phishers and other unauthorized parties from sending emails on behalf of a website address (domain) that they do not own. In simple terms, these email providers are trying to prevent the amount of spam from hitting consumers’ inboxes.

What Action Is Required on Your Part?

To ensure successful email sends, there are a few steps you need to take:

  • Alert and involve your internal email administrator as soon as possible that these changes are needed to ensure email delivery.
  • Review the upcoming changes. Here are a few articles for Gmail and Yahoo explaining their new policies.

Completing these steps will show email providers that your emails are safe and legitimate, increasing the likelihood of delivery to your customers.
